Each contact has a record and this menu allows you to add, change and delete each record. Your contacts can be listed in many different sequences. Each option on the Contacts menu is the sequence in which the contacts can be listed.

When an option is selected the contacts list will be displayed in the selected order. The contacts are listed down the left-hand side of the screen and the highlighted contact's record is displayed on the right-hand side. To scroll through the list use the arrow keys or the [Page Up] and [Page Down] keys. You can also type in the first letter or two of the contact and the highlight will move to the correct area of the list.

To add a new contact press [Ins].
To edit an existing contact locate the highlight bar and press [Enter].
To delete an existing contact press[Del].
To make a contact private press [Ctrl][P]. `Private' will be displayed at the top of the contact's record. [Ctrl][P] again will clear the private setting. Private contacts only appear on your contacts list.
You can also add or edit a contact's notes by pressing [Alt][N]. The notes screen will be displayed.

You can add, edit and delete note lines using the same keys as listed above.
When you press [Ins] on the contacts list a new contact record will be displayed on the right-hand side of the screen. The contacts list will be replaced by a blank area that can be used for general information and the cursor will be on the first field.

You will see that some fields have a question mark already entered. These are required fields and need you to enter something. If you are unsure of what to enter at this time leave the field with the question mark. If you are entering information just type over the question mark.
The fields in the contact record are fairly self explanatory so we won't detail them. All fields with a yellow triangle have a pop-up list available to choose from. You can add to these lists by pressing [Ins]. Enter the first contact date as you add the contact's details - the last and next date fields are filled in as you use the TCM. The Interest fields can be used as necessary.
A word about the postcode look-up facility. You only need enter the first few letters of a suburb and then press [F2]. You can then select the suburb and postcode from the pop-up list. If you enter the suburb's name in full the postcode will be entered automatically. If the suburb is found in more than one state you may find Equity will enter the wrong one! If this happens press [Esc] until you are on the postcode field and press [F2]. You can then select the correct one.
Note : You can change the state order in which suburbs with the same name are listed If you deal mainly in one or two states changing the sequence will save time. Refer to Postcode Sequence in this section for more information about changing the postcode sequence.
[Alt][N] Allows you to add dated notes for this contact, such as phone calls and queries. This list scrolls so you can keep adding lines when necessary.
[Alt][G] Allows you to enter general information, such as a delivery address or product preferences. How you use this field depends on what type of contacts you have. This field doesn't scroll - you only have the space displayed on screen. To save information entered into the General area you must press [Ctrl][Enter].
You may wish to report on only a selection of your contacts. To do this you can tag your contacts by pressing [Alt][T]. When contacts are tagged a yellow tick-like symbol appears by their name. To untag a contact press [Alt][T] again. You can go down the contacts list tagging as many contacts as necessary.
You may find it easier to tag all of the contact list and then untag a few. To tag a whole list press [Ctrl][T]. [Ctrl][U] untags the whole list.
The tagging facility makes it quite easy to select certain contacts to report on, especially when they are listed in relationship, suburb or interest order.
By pressing [F2] from the contacts list you can type in an English-like query to help you find only those contacts that match the query parameters.
When you press [F2] the query line will be displayed for you to enter. You can use field names and operators to specify your query. The valid field names you can query on are :
Comname
Firstname
Surname
Relation
Position
Salutation
Add1 or Add2
Suburb
State
Phonebh
Phoneah
Phonefax
Phonecar
Mainint (Main interest)
Altint (Alternate interest)
Firstcont (First contact)
Lastcont (Last contact)
Nextcont (Next contact)
Pcode
Memo
The valid operators are :
AND
OR
NOT
= (equals)
>= (greater than or equal to)
<= (less than or equal to)
> (greater than)
<> (not equal to)
< (less than)
IN (contains)
The best way to describe how this is used is to give a few examples.
firstname = "Paul"
This would limit the contact list to those with the first name of Paul.
"Pat" in surname
This would limit the contact list to those with the letters PAT somewhere in the surname, e.g. Patrickson, Fitzpatrick.
relation = "dealer" and pcode > 3000 and pcode < 4000
This would limit the contact list to contacts who are dealers in Victoria.
"dealer" in relation and "soap" in mainint or "soap" in altint
This would limit the contact list to dealers with soap as their main or alternate interests.
Note : This facility enables the quick tagging of a selected group of contacts for target mailings etc.
