3.10. Pop-up Postcode List

Equity makes it easy to enter suburbs and postcodes as each time you type in a suburb the postcode will be automatically entered for you. You don't even need to type the whole suburb in. By typing in only the first few letters and pressing [F2] the postcode list will be displayed for you to pick from. It's that simple!

If you type in the whole suburb Equity may automatically enter the wrong postcode if the suburb exists in a different state. The reason this occurs is that the post code list is stored alphabetically and in state order, so Equity entered the first one in the list and it happened to be the right suburb, wrong state!. If this happens press [Esc] until you are on the Suburb field, then press [F2]. You can now select the correct postcode from the pop-up list.

We have provided a facility to change the postcode state sequence so that if you mainly deal in one or two states you can make these the top priority. For more information on changing the postcode sequence refer to page blah in the Managers Module section of this manual.

If you have entered a suburb and the computer beeps check that the spelling of the suburb is correct. Type in the first few letters and press [F2] to pop-up the postcode list. Use the up and down arrow keys to scroll through the list and try to find the suburb you're after. If you still can't find it look it up in the postcode booklet published by the Post Office. It may be a new postcode or have a very unusual spelling. If it is a new postcode you can add it to the pop-up list by pressing [Ins] when list is displayed.

If you are entering an over-seas postcode you will need to enter it into the pop-up list by pressing [Ins] when the list is displayed. The state will be OS and you can enter the suburb and postcode. This will then be entered into the postcode list in alphabetical sequence.
