3.1. Overview

This chapter defines the basic concepts required to operate Equity, and introduces the different screens which you will see as you use the program.

Equity stores financial information. It does this on computer discs, using the computer to collect, manipulate, store, retrieve and present the information to the screen or printer.

Equity is a menu-driven program. This means that all options are available to you by selecting them from a list. We will discuss menus and how to use them in this chapter.

Information is stored in Equity in records, which are the computer's version of the cards you would find in a Card Index System. Equity has the flexibility to present this information in a more meaningful way and allows you to generate reports and lists easily.

When you first receive your Equity program the computer will have no details about your products, customers/clients or suppliers, users, etc. This information will need to be entered before Equity can start to work for you. (refer to the Getting Started chapter)
